Preamble: In order to bring about a more perfect union between the lovers and users of sacred music, to revive and establish the old an time honored songs of Zion, cause a return to the first principles of Sacred music, kill out denominational prejudice, destroy vocal sectarianism, create a greater vocal interest among all classes and honor God with the gifts He has bestowed upon us through the theme of Sacred songs, we the members of the South Union Singing Convention do ordain and establish the following constitution and by laws.
Sec. 1. The officers of this convention shall be three in number, to-wit: Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary together with a standing committee on arrangements whose term of office shall continue one year, or until new ones shall succeed them.
Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of the chairman to call the convention together, preside at all meetings, preserve good order, put to the body for vote all motions, cast the deciding vote in case of a tie, appoint all committees and assist in the general arrangements of matters of business which shall come before the convention.
Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the Vice Chairman to fill the chair during the absence of the chairman, performing all duties that pertain thereto.
Sec. 4. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to make a minute of all business transacted, said minutes to be read for adoption or rejection just before the close of each session and keep all records of the convention.
Sec. 5. The committee on arrangements shall consist of five members of the convention.
Sec. 6. It shall be the duty of this committee to select all lesson leaders and lecturers allotting to each his or her time on the floor and place on the program.
Sec. 7. All business of the convention shall be decided by a majority vote of the members except they mutually agree otherwise, the chairman of the convention shall not vote except in case of a tie.
